The California representative will file a resolution to expel Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress.

There’s no denying where newly elected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) stands on political issues. She’s an election denier, a supporter of right-wing extremist ideology, has been accused of inciting the riots at Capitol Hill, and has been suspended on social media for spreading conspiracy theories. With that kind of background, Rep. Jimmy Gómez (D-Calif.) says she doesn’t belong in Congress.

The final straw for Gómez came after it was reported that Greene had previously endorsed the execution of Democrat lawmakers in 2018 and 2019, and a video surfaced in which she harassed Parkland shooting survivor and activist David Hogg

Yesterday, Gómez stated on Twitter that he would be introducing a resolution to expel Rep. Greene from Congress immediately.

“As if it weren’t enough to amplify conspiracy theories that the September 11 attacks were an inside job and the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was staged, a string of recent media reports has now confirmed that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had previously supported social media posts calling for political violence against the Speaker of the House, members of Congress, and former President Barack Obama,” said Rep. Gómez in a statement

“Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell,” he added.

Greene has yet to comment on the proposal by Gómez or the recent backlash she’s gotten about her previous social media behavior. However, last night during a town hall meeting with constituents and media, a reporter attempted to ask Greene about the implications of her actions, the reporter was threatened with being arrested.

In regards to a story by CNN in which the news outlet has screenshots of her support of violence against lawmakers, Greene tweeted, “Fake News CNN is writing yet another hit piece on me focused on my time before running for political office. I will never back down to the enemy of the American people and neither should you.”

Gómez said that Greene’s presence in Congress is a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve the government.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has repeatedly said she doesn’t feel safe around other members of Congress since the Jan. 6 riots at Capitol Hill by right-wing Trump supporters. On Jan. 21, during an interview on CNN, Ocasio-Cortez said she and other members of Congress feel like their lives may be in danger around some Republican lawmakers.

Gómez said that is the reason he is issuing his proposal to oust Greene from Congress.

“It is with their safety in mind, as well as the security of institutions and public servants across our country, that I call on my House colleagues to support my resolution to immediately remove Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from this legislative body,” he said.
