The plan will first focus on adding charging stations in the existing interstate highway system and is part of President Biden’s broader agenda to combat human-caused climate change.

Electric car owners will soon have more available charging stations.

On Thursday, Biden’s Administration officials announced the availability of $5 billion for states to fund electric vehicle chargers over five years, which is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The officials gave more details of the plan that is part of Biden’s broader agenda to combat human-caused climate change and advance the transition to clean energy. His pledge is that by 2030 half the vehicles sold in the US will be electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.

According to the US Department of Energy, Florida has the second-most registered electric cars in the country, with nearly 58,000 vehicles, reported in June of last year.

The officials said the plan will first focus on adding charging stations in designated alternative fuel corridors on the national highway system.

Officials like Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) and environmental advocates have highlighted the importance of this plan for Florida families.

“Electric vehicles are key to slashing the climate change pollution driving the extreme heat, flooding, and sea-level rise already harming Floridians’ health. Clean cars save on fuel and also avoid tailpipe emissions that cause asthma attacks, emphysema, and some cancers,” said Susan Glickman, spokesperson for the Florida Clinicians for Climate Action.
