During his five days in Florida, the governor met with elected officials and community leaders and spoke about investment opportunities on the island.

Governor Pedro Pierluisi returns to the Island on Wednesday, after spending five days in Florida, a time in which he validated the connection and opportunities between the two places.

As the main speaker at the Puerto Rico Symposium that was held in Brickell, in Miami, on Tuesday, Pierluisi spoke of the increase in the economic development of the Island and the investment opportunities that exist there.

“For many years we have seen how Puerto Ricans have moved to the state of Florida to work and live. Now we are facing a promising future, with better economic stability and job opportunities, which has allowed residents and merchants not only to want to return to the Island, but also to invest,” Pierluisi said at the symposium.  “We can say that there is already movement in both directions that will benefit both Puerto Rico and the state of Florida.”

During his presentation, the governor spoke about the different areas of opportunity, emphasizing everything related to reconstruction, infrastructure, and tourism, especially public-private partnerships.

Pierluisi also spoke about the historical access to federal funds that the island has, to build and rebuild necessary housing with resilient infrastructure projects that comply with the relevant codes, after facing natural disasters.

During his stay in Florida, which was between Miami and Orlando, the governor also met with Congress member Darren Soto, Kissimmee Mayor Olga González, and other Kissimmee and Orlando government officials and community leaders.

In Kissimmee, he also met with Osceola County Sheriff Marcos R. López to discuss collaboration alternatives with which can allow both jurisdictions to share information that can help apprehend fugitives.

“During the meeting that I had with the sheriff of the city of Osceola, Marcos López, we talked about the possibility of having a Memorandum or Agreement between the government of Puerto Rico and his office to share intelligence, criminal records, coordinate the arrests of fugitives or those who commit a crime in order to provide greater security in both places,” Pierluisi said.
