Many shelters are open and implementing safety and social distancing protocols as they welcome victims during this pandemic.

First, know that many shelters are open and implementing safety and social distancing protocols as they welcome victims during this pandemic. Here are just a few resources serving those trapped in violent households while following stay-at-home orders:

  • Live chat feature in English 24/7 and in Spanish from 12-6 p.m. Central Time
  • Deaf or hard of hearing may call TTY 1-800-787-3224 or access advocates who are Deaf 24/7 through the National Deaf Hotline by video phone at 1-855-812-1001, Instant Messenger (DeafHotline), or email ([email protected])

Information on using telehealth to get help for an injury caused by a domestic partner by the Positive Women’s Network:

  • Safe Horizon helps with crisis counseling, safety planning, and assists in finding shelters 1 (800) 621-HOPE (4673). They also operate a confidential chat feature. 
  • The StrongHearts Native Helpline for domestic/sexual violence is available from 7 a.m. — 10 p.m. CT. It’s confidential and specifically for Native communities: 1−844-762-8483.

And remember, sometimes the best resource is a caring friend who checks in on you. If you suspect someone is at risk, call often, let them know there is help available to them, Coronavirus or not.
