“For those having trouble finding a location or making an appointment, we’re going to make it easier than ever,” President Joe Biden.

As accessibility to the COVID-19 vaccine continues to expand, more pharmacies are offering walk-in vaccinations as well as same-day appointments.

Just a few weeks ago, finding a vaccination site and making an appointment seemed impossible. Now, it’s easier than ever.

National chains such as Walmart, Walgreens, Publix, Safeway, Rite Aid, and Stop & Shop are now offering walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations or same-day appointments.

On May 4, President Joe Biden said the administration is broadening access to the COVID-19 vaccine, aiming to have at least 70% of American adults vaccinated with their first shot by July 4.

NPR reports that currently, 118 million people, or 35.8% of the total US population, are fully vaccinated. But we know that for the Black and Latino communities, those figures are considerably lower.

An estimated 11% of Latinos are fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while less than 10% of Blacks have been fully vaccinated.

“We know that many adults have not been vaccinated because they have found it too confusing or too difficult or too inconvenient to get a shot,” Biden said, discussing the federal website that offers information on where to find the closest vaccine near you. “So for those having trouble finding a location or making an appointment, we’re going to make it easier than ever.”

He added, “Now, I know some people find making an appointment in advance inconvenient. So, starting this week, we are also going to direct all federal pharmacy partners to begin to provide walk-in hours. You’ll soon be able to get vaccinated without an appointment at the vast majority of our 40,000 pharmacy locations across the country.”
